The Industrial Hygienist serves as the technical expert for UCSF’s clinical safety and industrial hygiene programs. With minimal supervision, the incumbent is expected to independently perform a wide spectrum of industrial hygiene services to include occupational exposure monitoring, indoor air quality investigations, hazard/risk assessments, local exhaust ventilation assessments, accident investigations, respirator fit testing, and others as required. The IH must be proficient in technical report writing and have the ability to explain complex topics to a wide ranging audience across the UCSF campus and Medical Center communities. Additionally, the IH is required to perform Environment of Care audits in accordance with Joint Commission accreditation requirements across UCSF Medical Center, which includes a working knowledge of fire/life safety, infection control, and emergency management principles in health care.
The IH monitors compliance and may serve as an organizational liaison with regulatory agencies. Problems faced my be complex and require creation of new methodologies by application of professional knowledge and expertise. The incumbent may be called upon to represent EH&S at meetings and conferences involving academic committees, campus functions, or UC wide working groups. Must be adept at database management, data mining, developing metrics, and meeting strict reporting requirements. Decisions may impact other EH&S programs or program elements.
